Our story

First Light began in 2023 in a 2,000-square-foot warehouse—hardly a traditional training facility. Like many early-stage startups, we worked with limited resources, so we took on most of the build-out and day-to-day operations ourselves. What started with just two athletes quickly grew into a community of more than 100 players in under two years.

At the heart of First Light is a simple mission shaped by our own journey. Having competed in basketball from childhood through university, we built First Light to give kids who truly love the game access to high-quality, professional coaching. We share the lessons and experiences we’ve gained along the way—helping athletes avoid the setbacks we faced, build the right habits early, unlock their potential, and pursue their basketball goals with confidence.

As demand outpaced our space and schedule, we reached a point where we simply couldn’t welcome everyone who wanted to train with us. That constraint became our catalyst for expanding our facility and creating an environment where more athletes can develop, compete, and grow with First Light.
